Would Lighter Hair Suit Me?

Love the look of lighter hair, but wondering whether it would suit you?

Perhaps you like the idea of going lighter but wonder whether it might make you look washed out, or which blonde tones would suit you.

Or you’ve already tried lighter hair and would love it to look a little softer, brighter or less brassy.

Lighter hair can be bold or subtle, lighter all over or softly framing your face. There are many ways to bring lighter tones into your colour.

Our experienced stylists and colourists at Absolute Hair will help you explore the colours you like, what’s possible with your hair and how to create a look you’ll love wearing.

Would a cool or warm blonde suit you?

You might like ash, pearl or icy blonde tones, or a very light platinum look. Warmer blondes include golden, honey and caramel colours. There are softer, neutral blondes in between, too.

Your skin tone can help guide the choice, but it isn’t a rule that decides your hair colour for you. We also look at your natural colouring, the colours you like and how light you want to go.

You might love a bright, cool blonde in a photograph but prefer a softer version against your own face. Or you might like warmth without wanting your hair to look yellow or orange.

That’s why looking at photographs together is so useful. We can talk about what you actually like, rather than relying on a colour name that might mean something different to each of us.

Not sure which technique will create the look you want?

A few lighter pieces around your face or highlights through your existing colour may give you the lightness you’re looking for.

You don’t need to arrive knowing which foils or toner to book. Tell us what you like about the look, and we can recommend the best way to create it for your hair.

What about regrowth and keeping your blonde looking fresh?

The way we place the colour affects how the regrowth looks and what you’ll need at your next appointment.

Colour can be applied directly to the hair at the scalp, placed in foils, or used in balayage and face-framing techniques.

You may have heard the term ‘lived-in blonde’, often used for a softer, blended look as the hair grows. If that appeals to you, we can talk about what it could look like on your hair and how to keep the tone looking fresh.

We’ll talk about how often you’d like to come in, the time and investment you’re comfortable with, and which products will help you care for your colour at home.

Together, we’ll decide on the approach that suits you and your hair.

Is your hair ready to go lighter?

Your hair’s condition and previous colour help us decide how light to go and the best way to approach it.

We’ll ask about what’s been used on your hair, including colour at home, and look at how your hair feels now. Sometimes a gentler change or a plan over several appointments is the better choice.

Our priority is beautiful colour while caring for your hair along the way.

If you’re considering a bigger change, our guide to planning a hair colour change explains more about the process.

Let’s find a lighter look you’ll love wearing

Bring two or three photographs, including a picture of your own hair when you loved the colour, if you have one. Tell us what you like and anything you’d prefer to avoid.

For a significant change, colour correction or grey transition, our Detailed Colour Planning Consultation, $55, gives us time to explore the options and plan your next step together.

Which detail would you choose first?

It may be the weight at the ends, the softness around the face, the contrast through the colour or the movement in the shape.

Finding that detail is where a saved image becomes your hair.

Sometimes the right move is fixing the one thing that keeps annoying you: weight in the wrong place, a fringe that will not sit properly, a tone that feels slightly off or hair that takes too long at home.

Maybe your hair has been looking and feeling good, and you want to keep it that way.

This is about maintaining the result you love—not waiting until your hair becomes difficult again.

REFRESH WHAT WINTER IS CHANGING

Your hair feels basically right, but it has lost some of its freshness.

It may need more softness, shine, shape or movement. Your colour may need refining, or your ends may simply need some attention.
You do not always need a complete change to love your hair more.

RETHINK WHAT IS NOT FEELING QUITE RIGHT

You know you want something different, but you are not sure what to ask for or which appointment to book.

Bring the picture. Bring the idea. Bring the concern you cannot quite explain.

We will listen to what you are seeing, understand what you want to keep and help you find a change that still feels like you.
