Thinking About Cutting Your Hair Short?

You like the look of short hair. But would you like it on you?

Perhaps you’re ready for a completely different cut. Or you’re tired of tying your hair back and wondering whether shorter would be easier.

A shorter style could be a lovely change. The important part is finding a shape you enjoy wearing and feel comfortable styling yourself.

At Absolute Hair, we’ll help you explore what could work before deciding how much length to take off.

Do you want shorter hair, or a change to your current cut?

You don’t always need to lose a lot of length to enjoy a different look.

More shape, movement or softness around your face may be enough. Equally, if you’ve been drawn to shorter styles for a while, it’s worth exploring what you like about them.

Tell us what you’d love to change and what you want to keep. That gives us a much better starting point than simply asking how short to go.

Would a short hairstyle suit your hair?

The shape matters as much as the length. Two people can bring the same photograph and need different approaches to the cut.

We’ll look at:

  • How your hair naturally falls, including any waves or curls.
  • Where it feels full, flat or difficult to manage.
  • Your hairline and the way your hair grows around your face and crown.
  • What you like about the photograph, from the softness around the face to the shape at the back.
  • How you like to wear and style your hair at home.

You don’t need to arrive knowing whether to ask for a bob, a pixie or more layers. Bring your ideas. Our experience is in working out how to make the details suit you.

Will shorter hair be easier to look after?

It can be, but less length doesn’t always mean less styling.

If you usually put your hair in a ponytail and go, a short cut may involve a different morning routine. Think about whether you still want to tuck it behind your ears, tie some of it back or leave it to dry naturally.

We’ll talk through what the cut will need, show you how to style it and recommend products where they’ll help. The aim is a look you can enjoy between salon visits, not only when we’ve just finished it.

What about keeping the shape or growing it longer again?

We’ll discuss how often your chosen cut is likely to need reshaping and what you’re comfortable booking.

If growing it longer again is on your mind, mention that too. We can talk about how the shape could change along the way. You don’t have to go straight to the shortest version of a look.

What should you bring to your appointment?

Two or three photographs are helpful. So are pictures of your own hair when you really liked it.

Tell us what catches your eye and anything you wouldn’t enjoy, such as hair falling across your face or a style that needs more attention than you want to give it.

If you haven’t found a photograph, that’s fine. What you tell us about your hair is just as useful.

Let’s find a cut you’ll love wearing

You don’t need to have the finished look worked out before you come in. We’ll listen, explore the options and agree on the change together.

A reference photo shows the destination. The exper A reference photo shows the destination. The expert work is finding the detail that will make the greatest difference from where your hair is now.

It may be the weight at the ends, the softness around the face, the contrast through the colour or the movement in the shape.

Finding that detail is where a saved image becomes your hair.
Not every great hair appointment needs a hair rein Not every great hair appointment needs a hair reinvention.

Sometimes the right move is fixing the one thing that keeps annoying you: weight in the wrong place, a fringe that will not sit properly, a tone that feels slightly off or hair that takes too long at home.

If you could change one small thing at your next hair appointment, what would it be? Book an appointment to talk it over with us @absolutehairwaikanae

Maybe your hair feels drier, heavier, flatter or harder to style or your usual colour is no longer giving you the same result.

Hair changes. Life changes. Sometimes the plan needs to change too.

Sometimes it needs protecting. Sometimes a thoughtful refresh is enough. And sometimes it is time to rethink what is no longer feeling quite right.

Whatever you are noticing, we are here to listen, consider what has worked for you and help you choose the right next step.

PROTECT WHAT YOU LOVE

Maybe your hair has been looking and feeling good, and you want to keep it that way.

This is about maintaining the result you love—not waiting until your hair becomes difficult again.

REFRESH WHAT WINTER IS CHANGING

Your hair feels basically right, but it has lost some of its freshness.

It may need more softness, shine, shape or movement. Your colour may need refining, or your ends may simply need some attention.
You do not always need a complete change to love your hair more.

RETHINK WHAT IS NOT FEELING QUITE RIGHT

You know you want something different, but you are not sure what to ask for or which appointment to book.

Bring the picture. Bring the idea. Bring the concern you cannot quite explain.

We will listen to what you are seeing, understand what you want to keep and help you find a change that still feels like you.
