Bore Water and Your Hair: What to Check First
Have you noticed that your hair feels different when you wash it at home compared with washing it away? If your home uses bore water, it is understandable to wonder whether the water is involved.
That difference is useful information, but it is not a diagnosis. At Absolute Hair, we can discuss how your hair feels and behaves while helping you separate haircare questions from questions for a water specialist.

Start by describing what you notice
Think about when the change began. Have you moved house, changed products, had a colour service or altered your washing routine? Is the concern a coated feeling, tangling, a colour change or irritation?
Note whether anyone else in the household has noticed a change and whether the water looks, smells or behaves differently. Bring those observations to the relevant professional rather than assuming every change in your hair has one cause.
Find out about your actual water supply
The words “bore water” tell you where water comes from; they do not provide the results of a water test. We cannot identify its composition or safety by looking at your hair.
For questions about your supply, use a qualified water professional or suitable laboratory. Explain the concern and ask what testing is appropriate before selecting treatment equipment. The Water Services Authority provides information about testing and treatment.
Buying a shower filter before understanding the problem can leave you with equipment that does not address your particular concern. Ask what it is designed to remove and how its performance and maintenance will be checked.
Keep the haircare investigation simple
Bring the names of your shampoo, conditioner and treatments, along with any recent colour history. We can look at your hair and discuss whether your routine needs adjusting or whether a particular cleansing treatment is appropriate.
Changing several products at once makes it harder to understand what helped. Agree on a manageable first step and what to notice afterwards. Avoid strong homemade mixtures or repeated aggressive cleansing based on an online diagnosis.
Our hair-washing guide is a useful place to revisit the basics without assuming your hair needs an entirely new routine.
Tell your colourist before your appointment
Mention any unusual colour change, persistent coating or water concern before a colour service. It gives your stylist more context when assessing your hair and planning the appointment.
If you are experiencing hair loss, persistent scalp irritation or another health concern, seek medical advice rather than relying on a salon treatment or water filter to explain it.
For the haircare side of the question, contact Absolute Hair and tell us what you have noticed. Useful observations are a better starting point than an expensive guess.
