You are about to find out everything you need to decide whether to cut your hair short.

You aren’t alone if you are considering changing up your look.

We have woman come into the salon every day wanting to cut their hair shorter or dye it a different colour.

When looking for something new in our lives, we often turn to our heads! We have written a detailed guide on everything you need to consider before making the decision.

We often think about changing up our look when we are unhappy with what we currently have. This can make the idea of chopping it all off very tempting! Short hair cuts have come a long way in the last 20 years, and Absolute Hair has all the experience to walk you through our favourite looks that have lasted over time.

Sometimes it’s just easier to stick with the familiar, same old… same old.

‘What if I don’t like it.. paid all that money and effort for something that does not work with my hair!’

‘I can’t manage this fringe… I never knew it would take so much extra effort’

‘I thought a shorter hairstyle would be easier…it’s not’

The first thing we want you to consider is whether you’re unhappy with your current hair cut, or whether you really want to take it short. Hair does grow back absolutely, but ensuring you are ready for the chop is a key to success.

There are also many ways to change up your look without chopping off a lot of length. Adding layers and dimension can give you a more full movement cut, and can leave you wishing you’d done it sooner! The answer isn’t always shorter. Our team at Absolute Hair does a thorough consultation to help you unpack what direction you would like to go in.

Beautiful hairstyles should not be that hard.

Your hairstylist should be a wealth of resources when it comes to updating your style and giving you ideas for new short hairstyles.

They know you and your hair and what you have tried in the past.

Take a fresh look at your hair. We have put together some of the new short hairstyles and best looks this season with a guide to help you know which styles suit different hair types.

Short hairstyles can look amazing but you do need to spend a little time styling every day. Whether you have thick or fine hair short hairstyles need to be told what to do!

Using a volume product helps hold the style, styling it with a brush or fingers puts it in place and keeps it there, and then a finishing product gives definition.

Most hair types can handle a short hairstyle. Your stylist can vary the length and weight if your hair is fine or needs to have weight for control. Textured, feathered short hairstyles are great for finer hair and also to remove bulk from thicker hair.

If you have curly hair talk thoroughly with your stylist so you get a short hairstyle that you like. Using straighteners to cut the fluffiness and give you more control can be a simple way to help make your short hairstyle more manageable. A product that defines and holds the curls will be essential.

Long/short textured styles are very hot this year. Not everyone wants a short pixie so this is great choice if thats you. They can be shaggy and short or bob length. Texture is the key.

If you have fine hair this may suit you better than a short pixie as it will give your hair a fuller look. The longer it is just remember, more blow drying and product. Finer hair will need styling for fullness.

Thick wavy hair can also suit this longer pixie because more weight will keep the style under control. Waves can give a versatile look and textured styles are great for removing bulk from thick hair.

Curls can also work well with this style. Use serum and smoothing waxes to define the curl and give texture.

This is a very versatile look and you will have lots of fun changing it up. Tuck it behind your ears for a neat short style or shag it up will movement in the layers.

Colour is a great accessory to this style. It will give the hair extra visual texture and also by the actual colour process as well. Perfect for finer hair that needs some oommph, and thicker hair that needs definition. We have written about colour techniques and styles HERE

These ombre and melted looks work well with shorter or longer styles and are a great way to keep these styles looking modern and stylish. Easy to change and fun, it;s the perfect way to finish these looks.

Fringes or bangs are the big trend if you have long hair… and they come in all shapes and sizes. Most woman are terrified of having a fringe and it not suiting them as it is such a drag to grow out.

However you will never know unless you give it a go and remember softness around the face can be very flattering.

Fringes need styling. No matter what your hair is like a fringe will almost always be better if you put in some time to style it. A quick zap with the straighteners or blow dry and brush will be enough to get your fringe behaving.

The longer the fringe, the less likely it is to stay in place.. but softness is the  point of a fringe and it works, wind or not. A thicker fringe will be more solid as the weight of the hair will keep it in place, but not everyone can have a thick fringe. Your hair line shape, texture and desired length all play a part in determining that.

We have written a helpful and inspiring blog about fringes.  Its not to be missed if you want to see some before and afters and fringe ideas.

Long hair is wavy. If long hair is your thing and you want to give that a new look, its all about the waves this year. Beachy or glam, you can’t go wrong with some movement. Check out how all the ladies are rocking this look below.

If your hair is dead straight then the curling iron will be your best friend when trying to achieve this look. Even wavy hair can have more controlled waves with the help of a curler or iron.

Shape the front. Having the front of your hair shaped and long layers cut will help give the shaggy look, increase movement and body. Definitely a cut for trusted and experienced stylists only. Layers on long hair can look simple but must be balanced to achieve the desired movement and keep your hair looking full, not scraggly and chopped.
